The Well-minded Practice

Jo @The Well-Minded Practice

The Well-Minded Practice has been helping clients all around the country, and also overseas, to cope with many of life’s more difficult challenges since it opened its doors in 2011. Working from the Human Givens approach, a brief, solution-focused approach, we help people feel better and move on in their lives as quickly as possible. Practical and flexible, it combines the latest insights from neuroscience and psychological research with proven therapeutic techniques from a wide range of approaches to provide highly effective interventions tailored to individual clients.

The Well Minded Practice

All forms of mental distress arise because, in one way or another, people’s physical or emotional needs are not being met. Our essential needs and our innate resources to help meet them – the ‘givens’ of human nature – are at the heart of our approach. If our needs are met in balance, making us confident about our place in the world and the people we connect with, we don’t suffer from disabling conditions, such as anxiety, stress, depression, addictions, phobias or panic attacks. Our focus is to help individuals identify their unmet needs, seek ways to redress that balance and teach important life-coping skills.

We promise to offer practical help and powerful psychological interventions that deal with mental and emotional distress in the here and now, working with the individual towards their goal.

Jo is a qualified and highly experienced psychotherapist who has helped many hundreds of individuals move forward from periods of difficulty in their life. With extensive experience working with all forms of emotional distress, she always strives to ensure that alongside specific work carried out during appointments, clients have a firm foundation of understanding and a set of tools to continue to maintain their own emotional health proactively in the future.

Jo has a specialist interest in sleep, including its role in mental and physical health and has trained with the prestigious Sleep and Circadian Neuroscience Institute at the University of Oxford.

She is a senior tutor and assessor on the Human Givens Diploma in Psychotherapy, Head of Supervision for the Human Givens College and hosts their podcast. Jo is a Senior Accredited Member of the HGI, (SCoPEd Column C), a professional register accredited by the Professional Standards Authority. She holds an Enhanced DBS certificate and is registered with the ICO.

In her spare time, she loves walking, running, sailing and pretty much anything that gets her out in nature. She is also a qualified yoga teacher.

Therapy

Work through any difficulties that you are experiencing in a safe, comfortable and confidential setting.

The approach Jo takes draws on the best of CBT, person centred and solution focused therapy, set within a holistic understanding of what we need as human beings to lead emotionally healthy lives. It is fast and effective with most people where they want to be in around 4-6 sessions (sometimes less, occasionally a few more). Her aim is always that you will leave each session feeling a little better, more hopeful and more confident in your ability to recover or make the changes that you would like to see in your life. The highly effective approach to therapy that she takes is known as the Human Givens approach.

There are many conditions that Jo is asked for help with, but these are some of the most common:

Anxiety… depression… all forms of trauma (including birth trauma)… sleep… eating difficulties… self-harm… grief… concentration issues… phobias…  workplace stress… academic anxiety… menopause and mental health… domestic abuse…. moral injury… pain… anger… addiction… OCD…

The Sleep Clinic

Improve your sleep and enjoy the significant boosts in mood, concentration, performance, health and well-being.

Sleep is often the first thing we sacrifice when life gets busy. However, when we prioritise sleep we become better equipped to deal with life’s challenges. Good sleep doesn’t just mean lots of sleep: it means the right kind of sleep

Jo lectures and delivers training on sleep and has written many articles on this fascinating, if at times infuriating, subject. She can help you understand how to improve your sleep, giving you significant boosts in mood, concentration, performance, health and well-being.
